The history of Bellaria Igea Marina is intertwined with that of the Saracens,
populations from the Middle East and in particular soldiers who sailed the Mediterranean Sea in search of booty.
The events surrounding Bellaria date back to the 16th century, when Saracen pirate raids were frequent and feared, and coastal towns organised themselves to defend themselves.
Every year, in July, the landing of the Saracens at the port of Bellaria is simulated, an extraordinary historical re-enactment in costume with timeless charm that enchants everyone, adults and children alike.
