The races to win the banner of the Palio, painted by an artist, will be preceded by parades of the two districts that will reach the square.

Then followed the installation of the Grand Ducal Commissioner who for over 200 years, was annually sent to Terra del Sole from Florence, this until 1769, in his honor were organized lunches, celebrations and races in Piazza d'Armi.

The day of the Palio also sees the presence of a historic market, musicians, artists and Renaissance shows that entertain the public throughout the day.
