EVENTO TRASCORSO

Rimini and Venice: a union through the centuries | Guided tour by Visit Rimini on the occasion of Carnival

Comune di Rimini

Events may be subject to change, always contact organizers before going to the venue.

On the occasion of Carnival, Visit Rimini offers a guided tour to discover the close relationship that Rimini has always had with Venice, especially during the Malatesta Seignory, whose fortunes were often intertwined with those of the Serenissima.

A fascinating journey back in time in Venetian Rimini, starting from the City Museum, which houses the famous Pietà by Giovanni Bellini, commissioned by the Malatesta family and originally exhibited in the Malatesta Temple.

From there, it will be easy to reach the Canevone dei Veneziani, which bears the coat of arms of the Moro family, one of the most famous Venetian noble families, founders of the Serenissima, and then on to the Visitor Centre, the ancient Church of Santa Maria della Misericordia and the city's first hospice. Then on to the imposing Castel Sismondo (outside), now home to the Fellini Museum, remodelled during the period when Rimini was under Venetian rule, after the Pandolfaccio had sold it to the Venetians.

On this guided walking tour, you will discover the traces Venice left in the city, such as the unusual Portolotto, a Venetian dialect spoken in Rimini until the last century.
