War and partisan cuisine
Piero Meldini in dialogue with Stefano Pivato

"When I saw the sea for the first time, it was when I went to Riccione as a children's camp; we left with our cardboard suitcases, the numbers on our trousseau and a great melancholy... After a night holding back tears on the train, it appeared there at the end of the horizon: the sea, you can see the sea!

The large seaside colonies that dotted the Romagna Riviera - and Riccione in particular - represent one of the most significant examples of how the country's social history was intertwined with the landscape of the Adriatic coast, as reconstructed in Stefano Pivato's study dedicated to the experience of the colonies.

Interwoven with this is Piero Meldini's account of wartime cuisine, of the meals eaten by partisans in the mountains and by the peasants who supported them, poor, genuine food made with local products, a popular ritual with deep symbolic meaning.

Admission free while places last. Partisan snack at the end of the event.

Stefano Pivato has taught Contemporary History at the Universities of Urbino and Trieste. Historian and essayist, collaborator of Rai Storia, he has dedicated several studies to the relationship between politics and imagination.

Piero Meldini is a writer and essayist. Author of novels translated into several languages, he was awarded the Bagutta opera prima prize. He was among the first scholars to deal with food history and culture.
